Dear Parents:

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby. We understand this may be a difficult time for you, and you may have many mixed emotions. The Down Syndrome Association of York Region is a group of people who are connected because they care about someone who has Down Syndrome. Most of the members are parents. The others are professionals (early interventionists, speech and language pathologists, doctors, educators, physiotherapists) who have an interest in our children.

Our main goal is to support individuals with Down Syndrome as they go about leading productive and fulfilling lives. We do this by:

• Sharing information through our library, our phone line, our quarterly newsletter, and through guest speakers who are invited to discuss a wide range of topics.
• Working closely with SEAC reps who advocate for our children in the school system.
• Sponsoring several social events throughout the year so that we can get to know each other and have fun.

Knowing or being someone who has Down Syndrome is an important thing -- but it’s not the only thing!
